What is a Body Lift?
A body lift removes stubborn fat, excess skin and lifts areas that have been impacted by significant weight loss due to bariatric surgery or diet and exercise. A body lift involves multiple procedures that are performed in stages or in combination. These procedures include the lower body lift, abdominoplasty, breast lift, arm lift, thigh lift, and upper back lipectomy. Liposuction is often performed in conjunction with body lift procedures to achieve ideal results. The primary goal of a body lift is to sculpt, tighten and reshape the body contour.
A lower body lift (circumferential abdominoplasty) combines an abdominoplasty and a buttock lift using a circumferential bikini line incision to tighten and lift the abdomen, hips, lower back, and buttocks.
Ideal Candidates for a Body Lift
A body lift is appropriate for healthy patients who do not have pre-existing conditions that affect healing. Patients with excess skin and stubborn body fat in multiple areas are excellent candidates for a body lift.
Ideal candidates have had a stable body weight for at least half a year. Candidates must have no pregnancy plans over the next couple of years.
Candidates have realistic goals. Patients who have experienced significant weight loss are excellent candidates for a body lift procedure. The best candidates are committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle combined with proper diet and regular exercise.
Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation for a body lift, you will meet with one of our board certified plastic surgeons to discuss your goals and expectations. Your surgeon will provide you with a detailed explanation of the body lift procedure, answer your questions, and determine a surgical plan of care based on your expected outcome. After performing an exam and reviewing pertinent health history, your surgeon may order lab work and other pre-operative tests as deemed necessary. Lastly, you will meet with a surgery coordinator to discuss fees, surgery scheduling options, and make a pre-operative appointment to meet with the nurse for final preparation prior to surgery.
TESTIMONIAL
“Dr. Bourgeois is amazing! I am so happy that I chose her to do my breast reduction. She was the first surgeon I spoke with and after seeing her I didn’t want to go anywhere else. I was very comfortable speaking with her because she was kind, honest, and very patient. She answered every question that I had and I like that she did not sugar coat anything. She was very thorough and took her time with my reduction because my results are amazing!!! I recommend Dr. Bourgeois to anyone considering a breast reduction!”
Surgery
Your surgery will be performed in our AAAASF accredited office surgical suite with qualified anesthesia. Operative time will vary depending on selected body lift procedures. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, and patients are discharged home the same day.
Once the anesthesia has taken full effect, incisions will be made in the target areas. Excess body fat and skin will then be removed. Once the necessary modifications are complete, the incisions will be sutured and bandaged. Drains may be placed.
Recovery
Your nurse will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions at your pre-operative visit and will review them again prior to your discharge home. Recovery time will vary depending on the procedures performed and most patients take pain medication for 3-5 days. Patients can typically return to work within 1-2 weeks, but heavy lifting, pushing or pulling should be completely avoided for the first 10-12 weeks following your surgery.
The Cost of a Body Lift
The cost of a body lift will depend on the exact procedures included in the surgical plan. The total price of the procedure may be impacted by the cost of anesthesia and facility fees.
