What is Liposuction?
Liposuction, or Lipo, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from beneath the surface of the skin to improve body contour. Lipo is performed using a hollow cannula inserted through a small incision beneath the skin’s surface to suction out the fatty deposits. Lipo is ideal for body contouring and for resolving problem areas unresponsive to diet and exercise.
Lipo can be performed on multiple areas, most commonly the tummy, hips, back, thighs, upper arms, chin, and neck. Lipo can be used in conjunction with other surgical procedures to enhance results. Men and women find that lipo helps them to achieve long-lasting smoother body lines.
Who is in Need of Liposuction?
Liposuction is not a procedure that is intended to address weight issues of any kind. It is specifically intended to treat stubborn fat deposits. As such, this procedure will not be helpful for patients who have light to severe weight problems. Patients must already be at or near their ideal weight.
Patients must be in good overall health and should have realistic expectations. Non-smokers are preferred, since smoking can negatively impact the skin’s degree of elasticity and can prolong recovery.
This procedure can be particularly helpful for patients who have always struggled with fat reduction due to their busy schedules and slow metabolism. Liposuction is best when paired with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation for a liposuction, you will meet with one of our board certified plastic surgeons to discuss your goals and expectations. Your surgeon will provide you with a detailed explanation of the liposuction procedure, answer your questions, and determine a surgical plan of care based on your expected outcome. After performing an exam and reviewing pertinent health history, your surgeon may order lab work and other pre-operative tests as deemed necessary. Lastly, you will meet with a surgery coordinator to discuss fees, surgery scheduling options, and make a pre-operative appointment to meet with the nurse for final preparation prior to surgery.
TESTIMONIAL
” She’s the best very caring Dr. My whole Family Love her I’m so glad I met her and she did a great job .”
Surgery
Your surgery will be performed in our AAAASF accredited office surgical suite with a qualified anesthesia provider.
Once the anesthetic has been administered, a small incision will be made in the marked area. The cannula will be inserted into the incision, where it will be used to loosen fat from surrounding tissues. The dislodged fat will then be removed from the body via medical suction.
Operative time in most cases is approximately 1-2 hours. Most liposuction procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, and patients are discharged home the same day.
Recovery
Your nurse will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions at your pre-operative visit and will review them again prior to your discharge home. Recovery time for liposuction is about 1-2 weeks, and most patients take pain medication for a few days. Patients can typically return to work within 1-2 weeks, but heavy lifting, pushing or pulling should be avoided for the first four weeks following your surgery.
How Much Dos Liposuction Cost?
The cost of liposuction depends on a variety of factors, many of which can be discussed during the consultation. The size and number of treatment areas, the amount of reduction required, and the body parts need fat removal can influence prices.
